A Feeling of Achievement
How does it feel when things go right and you have a sense of achievement?
We spend a lot of time thinking about the things that didn’t go to plan in a day, but what if we switched our thinking to notice the good?
I had an experience this morning, when lots of ideas which had been bubbling around in my head for weeks all seemed to fall into place. The insurance that I needed to sort out, the little jobs on my to-do list (which was just getting longer but not getting done), and the loose-ended emails that needed following up. I felt a sense of closure, and achievement. Even though they were small tasks, I had let them build up to something bigger than they were. And I even saved £60 on my insurance by doing a quick search rather than automatically renewing! This productive time set me up for the rest of the day, and I felt a spring in my step and was even walking more upright than when I started.
Remember The Sense of Achievement
Can you remember the sense of achievement, and the feelings in your body when you have achieved something amazing?
Perhaps you will feel a physical as well as emotional sense of relief. You might be standing taller and feel a weight lift off your shoulders. You might notice that the way you are speaking is more positive and light-hearted.
Focusing on how you will feel when you have achieved a goal can really help you move towards it; not just remembering how you feel emotionally, but also the sorts of words you use, and the thoughts you have and even how feelings of success affect your body.
Learning how to recognise what’s happening inside when things are going right for you, can be a very useful key to one of the many doors in your mind.
