Fear of flying is one of the most common reasons people seek hypnotherapy. This is because they know consciously that flying is safe, and that thousands of flights take off and land every day. It is unusual for something to go wrong. And yet, many people have a strong fear of flying. This may not matter if you don’t want or need to travel by plane, but for millions this is a safe and trusted way to travel each year. It also opens up a world of travel and life experiences you cannot reach without a flight.

Your Desire Vs Your Fear

Perhaps you want to visit a new place, go on holiday to a far-flung destination or want to celebrate a special occasion with your family. It might need you to catch a plane. You will have to work out how big your desire is, in comparison with your fear. If your desire is very strong, then tap into that.

I suggest that you:

  • Think about what you will gain if you travel to the destination
  • Imagine the place you will see, the people you will meet and the fun you will have
  • Find a picture of a beautiful place you want to visit when you get there
  • Create a short film or series of images in your mind showing you the wonderful experiences you will have once you get to your destination

Now think about how much you want to go on this journey? What number is your desire out of 10?

If it is a high number (over 6 or 7), you have a good chance of getting over your fear.

Hypnotherapy for Fear of Flying

The key is to consider the flying as the means to get to the destination. This is something many people are afraid of, but they are able to overcome with the help of hypnotherapy. Fear of flying is classed as a phobia, which respond well to hypnotherapy.

One client came to see me with a flying phobia, and after 6 sessions, she was able to take a long awaited plane trip to visit her family abroad. Client K said she wished she had asked for help so much sooner, because this fear had stopped her from seeing her family for years. In the first year after having cognitive hypnotherapy with me, she went on to take 3 flights in as many months.

Hypnotherapy For Fears

The changes which came from the therapy also helped her in other areas of her life. This client has since come back for sessions to stop smoking and to make changes to her diet and exercise regime. In her words, she said that once her mind had had a make-over, she could work on all of the little niggly things which she wanted to work on and improve.
