Many of my clients lead very busy lives, so its hardly a surprise that one of the most common questions I get asked is: how long does hypnotherapy take to work?
For people working tough jobs and raising a family, time is certainly of the essence.
The truth is, no two people are the same; however there are trends I’ve observed over my time as a therapist. This blog is a generalisation, and shouldn’t be considered hard and fast rules of hypnotherapy.
Committing to long-term therapy can be daunting: it takes time, effort and money. If you’re curious but not yet ready to undertake cognitive hypnotherapy, you will always be able to access free resources and information on this blog.

What is cognitive hypnotherapy?
Cognitive hypnotherapy is a combination of traditional hypnotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy used to tackle deep rooted issues.
Sessions are like a conversation; I actively listen to you and ask questions about the specific issue. I make bespoke recordings for you to listen to at the end of your day when you are at your most relaxed. This is where the bulk of the therapy actually happens.
Check out my previous post for more detail on what cognitive hypnotherapy is.
Can cognitive hypnotherapy work really quickly?
Most people feel better after a single session of hypnotherapy no matter what issue they’re addressing, there’s no doubt about it. I’m sure this is partly due to the recordings I make being bespoke and totally centred around the client’s ideal outcome.
In my experience, treating clients with phobias usually takes the least time. If a client was due for a root canal appointment the following day, it is highly likely I would be able to reduce, if not eradicate, their fear in one session.

The most common hypnotherapy timeline
Most of my clients opt for either six or twelve sessions, as this facilitates a level of commitment that unlocks deeper healing.
Although fewer sessions will likely make you feel better, it’s important to note that many deep-rooted issues take time and patience to overcome.
I would recommend at least six sessions for clients who are dealing with stress or anxiety related issues. This could manifest as financial or career concerns, challenges within meaningful relationships and so on.

Long-term Hypnotherapy journeys
Anything from twelve sessions and beyond is for those who want to experience a deeper, holistic transformation in their lives.
I have a client whose recently completed his 15th session out of a course of 20. He approached me in a state of mid-life crisis. His unfulfilling marriage of thirty years had come to a grinding halt, his relationship with his children was practically nonexistent and his career had left him on the brink of burnout.
He was already feeling better after the first couple of sessions and asked me if we needed to keep going. I assured him that this was just the tip of the iceberg.
Four months later, his relationship with his children is now blossoming; he no longer feels like a walking piggybank. His marriage no longer bogs him down; he has initiated a separation with his wife. His career has become more meaningful; he’s established important work/life boundaries with his boss.
If you’re serious about making change in your life, cognitive hypnotherapy could be your answer. Lets see if we’re a good fit, and start to transform your life.
